U.S. CONGRATULATES PEOPLE OF CROATIA ON THEIR STATEHOOD DAY
FROM: U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT
On the Occasion of Croatia's Statehood Day
Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
June 24, 2014
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Croatia as they celebrate the anniversary of their declaration of independence this June 25th.
As the first Statehood Day since Croatia’s accession to the European Union, this year’s celebration is particularly significant. Last July’s accession was an event that underscored the historic transformation Croatia has successfully undertaken in the two decades since securing its independence. Croatia’s integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions advances the vision of a Europe that is whole, free, and at peace. Croatia provides a model for other countries striving to join NATO and the EU.
Croatia and the United States enjoy a close and enduring friendship. We look forward to deepening our partnership in the years ahead. Croatia has been a valuable NATO partner and contributor to the reconciliation efforts in South Central Europe. The close cooperation between our two countries represents our shared commitment to promoting peace and prosperity throughout the world.
We wish all the people of Croatia the very best on this important occasion, and remain committed to further expanding our bilateral relationship.

FROM: STATE DEPARTMENT
Myanmar's Independence Day
Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
January 3, 2014
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I’m honored to send best wishes to the people of your country as you celebrate your Independence Day.
Few days would be more appropriate to reiterate America’s commitment to supporting your country as you continue down the path towards becoming the democratic, peaceful, economically-vibrant nation so many of you have sacrificed so much to achieve.
It is my sincere hope that in the future we may celebrate the fulfillment of your aspirations.
Since I first visited your country in 1999 as a U. S. Senator, I have cared deeply about the relationship between our two countries, and, given the commitment President Obama has made to a bold new start with Myanmar, I look forward to working with you to see those ties continue to grow.
As 2014 marks the beginning of an exciting year of your ASEAN Chairmanship, please accept the best wishes of the American people for a happy Independence Day.

U.S. CONGRATULATES PEOPLE OF HAITI ON THEIR INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY
FROM: U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT
Haiti's Independence Day
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
January 1, 2014
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Haiti as you celebrate the 210th anniversary of your independence.
I spent more than 30 years representing Massachusetts as Lieutenant Governor and Senator, and I am proud to this day that my state is home to the third largest Haitian-American community in the United States. I was proud that my daughter’s first work as a doctor was in Haiti where she experienced firsthand the determination and resilience of proud Haitians who cared so deeply about their country’s future. Having known and worked so closely with this exceptional community, I hold a special appreciation for Haiti’s journey.
I was proud to introduce bipartisan legislation in the Senate to help Haiti rebuild and develop in a way that creates an opportunity to emerge better off and better prepared. And that’s why I worked closely with dozens of families in Massachusetts to expedite adoptions of Haitian orphans that had already been underway before the earthquake. As Secretary of State, I will continue to make Haiti a priority.
The United States joins you today in commemorating the courage and spirit of independence of all Haitians as well as the ties of friendship and family that bind our peoples together.
On this special day, I extend best wishes and reiterate our strong commitment to help all Haitians as they chart a path toward greater peace, security and, prosperity.

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE HAGEL ISSUES MESSAGE REGARDING INDEPENDENCE DAY
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel |
Hagel Issues Independence Day Message
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, July 3, 2013 - In his Independence Day message issued today, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel thanked U.S. troops and their families for their service to the nation.
Here is the text of the secretary's message:
On this Independence Day, I want to express my appreciation to the men and women and their families who serve our country across the nation and around the world. Thank you for everything you do to help keep our nation safe.
It's been 237 years since a small band of patriots signed the Declaration of Independence, in which they pledged their lives and their sacred honor to defend our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Since then, generations of Americans have made that same pledge, boldly standing up in the face of tyranny, oppression, and persecution.
That legacy lives on today. This week marked the 40th anniversary of the all-volunteer force, a symbol of how our brave men and women in uniform continue to protect the freedoms declared by our founding fathers more than two centuries ago. Their devotion to duty is just as strong, as is their willingness to risk their lives for each other and our country. And their dedication is a reminder that the preservation of America's liberties does not come without cost.
Those who serve in our armed forces, and their families, have given much in the name of defending the ideals and free institutions we often take for granted. Today, as we celebrate our nation's birth, let us honor their dutiful service and strive to be worthy of their tremendous sacrifices.
God bless you, our great nation, and all who serve to protect it. Happy Fourth of July!
