121219-N-RI884-004 PEARL HARBOR (Dec 19, 2012) The guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) is moored at its homeport at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The new destroyer is named in honor of Lt. (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat as leader of a four-man reconnaissance team in Afghanistan. Murphy was the first Medal of Honorrecipient for actions in Afghanistan, and the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War.
