In the week ending December 14, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 379,000, an increase of 10,000 from the previous week's figure of 369,000. The 4-week moving average was 343,500, an increase of 13,250 from the previous week's revised average of 330,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending December 7, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending December 7 was 2,884,000, an increase of 94,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,790,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,799,000, an increase of 4,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,794,750.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 414,002 in the week ending December 14, a decrease of 48,196 from the previous week. There were 401,429 initial claims in the comparable week in 2012.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent during the week ending December 7, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,878,730, a decrease of 81,111 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.5 percent and the volume was 3,244,564.
The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending November 30 was 4,412,144, an increase of 606,051 from the previous week. There were 5,402,429 persons claiming benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2012.

No state was triggered "on" the Extended Benefits program during the week ending November 30.

Initial claims for UI benefits filed by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,175 in the week ending December 7, an increase of 667 from the prior week. There were 2,356 initial claims filed by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 970 from the preceding week.

There were 22,439 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending November 30, an increase of 4,215 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 32,937, an increase of 3,837 from the prior week.

States reported 1,374,031 persons claiming Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits for the week ending November 30, an increase of 125,099 from the prior week. There were 2,096,545 persons claiming EUC in the comparable week in 2012. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending December 7 were in Alaska (6.0), Puerto Rico (3.6), New Jersey (3.5), California (3.4), Connecticut (3.1), Pennsylvania (3.1), West Virginia (3.0), Wisconsin (3.0), Montana (2.9), and Oregon (2.9).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending December 7 were in California (+21,876), New York (+14,322), Pennsylvania (+14,004), Georgia (+11,582), and Texas (+9,761), while the largest decreases were in Ohio (-1,095), Kentucky (-838), Vermont (-400), Massachusetts (-317), and New Mexico (-176).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending October 12, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending October 12 was 2,874,000, a decrease of 8,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,882,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,894,750, an increase of 13,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,881,500.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 310,814 in the week ending October 19, a decrease of 49,905 from the previous week. There were 345,226 initial claims in the comparable week in 2012.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the week ending October 12, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,471,524, an increase of 33,215 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.2 percent and the volume was 2,815,723.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending October 5 was 3,856,740, a decrease of 71,957 from the previous week. There were 4,923,220 persons claiming benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2012.

Initial claims for UI benefits filed by Federal civilian employees in the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE) program totaled 44,132 in the week ending October 12, a decrease of 25,939 from the prior week. The states reporting the highest number of UCFE initial claims were Maryland (8,445), Texas (4,109), Georgia (3,027) Virginia (2,503) and New York (2,429). There were 2,991 initial claims filed by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 391 from the preceding week.

There were 44,810 Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending October 5, an increase of 25,224 from the previous week. The states with the highest level Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 31,147, a decrease of 3,787 from the prior week.

States reported 1,324,967 persons claiming Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits for the week ending October 5, a decrease of 54,151 from the prior week. There were 2,052,957 persons claiming EUC in the comparable week in 2012. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

There were 21,083 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending August 10, a decrease of 125 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 33,778, an increase of 543 from the prior week.

States reported 1,511,619 persons claiming Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits for the week ending August 10, an increase of 10,551 from the prior week. There were 2,273,317 persons claiming EUC in the comparable week in 2012. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending August 17 were in Puerto Rico (4.7), New Jersey (3.6), Alaska (3.4), Connecticut (3.4), California (3.3), Pennsylvania (3.2), New Mexico (3.1), Virgin Islands (3.1), Nevada (2.8), and Rhode Island (2.8).

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending March 30, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,266,392, a decrease of 84,488 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,350,880. A year earlier, the rate was 2.7 percent and the volume was 3,470,104.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending March 23 was 5,277,512, a decrease of 10,573 from the previous week. There were 6,952,894 persons claiming benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2012.

Extended Benefits were available only in Alaska during the week ending March 23.

Initial claims for UI benefits filed by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,139 in the week ending March 30, an increase of 30 from the prior week. There were 2,143 initial claims filed by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 192 from the preceding week.

There were 19,791 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending March 23, a decrease of 452 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 38,090, a decrease of 587 from the prior week.

States reported 1,837,554 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending March 23, an increase of 37,929 from the prior week. There were 2,794,553 persons claiming EUC in the comparable week in 2012. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending March 23 were in Alaska (5.5), Puerto Rico (4.3), California (3.8), New Jersey (3.8), Rhode Island (3.8), Connecticut (3.7), Pennsylvania (3.7), Wisconsin (3.6), Massachusetts (3.5), and Montana (3.5).
