New York, N.Y., Jan. 31, 2013 -- Workers continue to repair Bellevue Hospital after it was evacuated due to flooding by Hurricane Sandy. Bellevue has developed mitigation strategies that can minimize the risk of damage and disruption of hospital operations in the event of future disasters. Sandy flooded the lower floors of the hospital with millions of gallons of water damaging the electrical systems, medical equipment, fuel and water pumps, and information technology infrastructure.
