UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

 
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending August 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 366,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 364,000. The 4-week moving average was 363,750, a decrease of 5,500 from the previous week's revised average of 369,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending August 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending August 4, was 3,305,000, a decrease of 31,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,336,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,303,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,306,000.

 
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 315,776 in the week ending August 11, a decrease of 4,443 from the previous week. There were 346,014 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending August 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,172,998, a decrease of 69,887 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8 percent and the volume was 3,553,649.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending July 28 was 5,680,545, a decrease of 69,782 from the previous week.

Extended benefits were only available in Idaho during the week ending July 28,

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,246 in the week ending August 4, a decrease of -221 from the prior week. There were 2,538 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 121 from the preceding week.

There were 18,115 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending July 28, an increase of 655 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 40,099, an increase of 925 from the prior week.

States reported 2,350,202 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending July 28, a decrease of 62,736 from the prior week. There were 3,130,608 persons claiming EUC in the comparable week in 2011. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending July 28 were in theVirgin Islands (4.5), Puerto Rico (4.0), Pennsylvania (3.9), New Jersey (3.8), Connecticut (3.6), Alaska (3.5), California (3.5), Rhode Island (3.3), New York (3.2), and Nevada (3.1).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending August 4 were in California (+3,069), Pennsylvania (+2,534), Illinois (+1,165), Ohio (+1,018), and Missouri (+935), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-4,157), New York (-2,653), Puerto Rico (-1,394), Tennessee (-318), and Florida (-300).

In the week ending August 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 361,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 367,000. The 4-week moving average was 368,250, an increase of 2,250 from the previous week's revised average of 366,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending July 28, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 28 was 3,332,000, an increase of 53,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,279,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,304,750, an increase of 4,500 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,300,250.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 317,580 in the week ending August 4, an increase of 4,934 from the previous week. There were 354,408 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending July 28, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,239,100, a decrease of 7,551 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8 percent and the volume was 3,580,433.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending July 21 was 5,750,084, a decrease of 214,367 from the previous week.

Extended benefits were only available in Idaho during the week ending July 21,

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,455 in the week ending July 28, an increase of 125 from the prior week. There were 2,418 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 104 from the preceding week.

There were 17,456 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending July 21, a decrease of 494 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 39,172, a decrease of 32 from the prior week.

States reported 2,412,938 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending July 21, a decrease of 119,890 from the prior week. There were 3,158,312 claimants in the comparable week in 2011. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending July 21 were in Puerto Rico (4.3), theVirgin Islands (4.1), New Jersey (3.8), Pennsylvania (3.8), Alaska (3.6), Connecticut (3.6), California (3.5), Rhode Island (3.4), New York (3.2), and Nevada (3.1).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending July 28 were in New York (+3,250), Washington (+485), Nebraska (+136), Mississippi (+111), and Connecticut (+46), while the largest decreases were in Kentucky (-4,884), California (-4,738), Georgia (-2,206), Florida (-1,840), and Ohio (-1,810).

In the week ending July 28 the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 365,000, an increase of 8,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 357,000. The 4-week moving average was 365,500, a decrease of 2,750 from the previous week's revised average of 368,250.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending July 21, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 21 was 3,272,000, a decrease of 19,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,291,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,298,500, a decrease of 11,500 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,310,000.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 310,492 in the week ending July 28, a decrease of 30,083 from the previous week. There were 341,103 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending July 21, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,239,615, a decrease of 97,192 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.9 percent and the volume was 3,680,729.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending July 14 was 5,964,553, a decrease of 69,672 from the previous week.

Extended benefits were only available in Idaho during the week ending July 14,

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,333 in the week ending July 21, a decrease of 325 from the prior week. There were 2,513 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 263 from the preceding week.

There were 17,979 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending July 14, an increase of 1,004 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 39,198, an increase of 152 from the prior week.

States reported 2,532,828 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending July 14, a decrease of 23,628 from the prior week. There were 3,184,621 claimants in the comparable week in 2011. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending July 14 were in the Virgin Islands (4.8), Puerto Rico (4.3), Pennsylvania (4.1), New Jersey (3.8), Alaska (3.7), Connecticut (3.7), California (3.6), Rhode Island (3.5), New York (3.2), and Nevada (3.2).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending July 21 were in Kentucky (+4,073), Vermont (+236), Puerto Rico (+48), the Virgin Islands (+14), and South Dakota (+10), while the largest decreases were in California (-32,107), New York (-15,615), North Carolina (-12,448), Georgia (-7,923), and Alabama (-5,122).

In the week ending June 30, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 374,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 388,000. The 4-week moving average was 385,750, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average of 387,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending June 23, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 23 was 3,306,000, an increase of 4,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,302,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,304,250, a decrease of 3,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,307,250.

UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 367,331 in the week ending June 30, a decrease of 3,129 from the previous week. There were 425,640 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending June 23, unchanged from the prior week's revised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,134,347, an increase of 20,443 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8 percent and the volume was 3,555,831.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending June 16 was 5,869,607, a decrease of 20,439 from the previous week.

Extended benefits were available in the Idaho, Nevada, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, during the week ending June 16.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,410 in the week ending June 23, an increase of 56 from the prior week. There were 2,686 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 222 from the preceding week.
There were 16,463 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 16, an increase of 368 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 38,587, an increase of 321 from the prior week.

States reported 2,628,712 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending June 16, a decrease of 16,805 from the prior week. There were 3,256,523 claimants in the comparable week in 2011. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 16 were in Virgin Islands (4.3), Alaska (4.1), Puerto Rico (4.0), Pennsylvania (3.7), California (3.3), New Jersey (3.3), Connecticut (3.2), Illinois (3.1), Oregon (3.1), Nevada (2.9), Rhode Island (2.9), and Wisconsin (2.9).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 23 were in California (+8,239), New Jersey (+4,894), Massachusetts (+3,873), Michigan (+3,692), and Connecticut (+2,598), while the largest decreases were in Pennsylvania (-7,865), Maryland (-2,265), Ohio (-1,588), Wisconsin (-1,544), and Georgia (-1,398).
